Within the last few decades there have been significant initiatives to establish and develop international programs and systems to facilitate access to the information resources of cooperating countries. A program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), UNISIST was designed to encourage and coordinate the development of a flexible and loosely connected network of information services based on the voluntary cooperation of participating nations. This paper briefly traces the historical evolution of UNISIST, particularly in relation to the changing focus of its objectives, and includes a reasonably comprehensive bibliography of UNISIST and its activities. The 304 bibliographic references were collected by searching several pertinent indexing and abstracting journals, a bibliography of Unesco publications, and the ERIC database. The citations are predominantly for articles written in the English language, although some foreign works are included. Each citation includes the principal personal author or corporate author, date of publication, title, and journal/report data. A keyword subject index and a list of abbreviations used in the bibliography are included. (THC)
