Intramural Programming for Elementary, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary Schools. A Practical Approach.
Watts, Gayle E.; Korchinsky, Nestor N.
A justification for the offering of intramural sports is offered, and an introduction to methods for establishing such programs at the elementary, junior secondary, and senior secondary school levels is presented. General information on intramural programing at each level includes discussion of questions on commitment, financing, liability, eligibility, scheduling, program implementation, and program evaluation. The presentation of intramurals at the elementary level examines program activities at lower (K-4) and higher (4-7) organization/skill levels, as well as collective and cooperative game suggestions, novelty events and ideas, special event days, and a suggested seasonal timetable of activities. Intramurals for junior secondary schools are discussed from the viewpoint of team activities, individual and dual activities, and novelty events and ideas. Team and dual activities, co-recreational activity and additional activity suggestion lists, novelty events, and seasonal activity timetables are presented for the senior secondary level. A bibliography of 33 citations is appended, emphasizing aspects of intramural sports in Canada. (MJB)
