An Analysis of State Laws on Career Education and Pending State Legislation.
Jesser, David L.
State legislation relating to career education presently exists in 14 States (Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington), with legislation pending or in some stage of discussion in seven States (Alabama, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Utah). It appears that the matter of State legislation will be an individual State matter with several States opting for no State legislation for career education. Although there has been a marked movement for State legislation during the past several years, the number at present makes it difficult to detect many strong patterns or trends. Most of the career education definitions, however, contain similar components of awareness, orientation, exploration, and decision making. The report is organized into three sections: Career Education Legislation in the States: An Overview, Analyses of State Legislation for Career Education, and Conclusions. More than half of the document consists of appendixes containing samples of existing and pending Senate/House bills and resolutions or State codes for career education legislation. (Author/EA)
