The purpose of the Children's Book Showcase is to select the best designed and/or illustrated children's books that have been published in the U.S. during the preceding year, and to prepare a catalog of pertinent information about the production and design elements of each to accompany an exhibit of these books. This 1973 catalog contains 28 entries. Each title is accompanied by the following information: author, illustrator, editor, art director, designer, production director, printer, binder, page size, pagination, size of first printing, price, method of preparation and reproduction of art, text and display typefaces and compositors, names and manufacturers of text paper and binding material and endpapers and book jacket. The judge's critique is also included for each entry. The catalog includes an author/illustrator index, a brief bibliography of books about bookmaking and bookmaking terms, and a brief section of suggestions on how interested people may organize showcase exhibits in their communities.
