This report describes results of the second year of research in developing statistical indicators of scientific and technical communication. This effort placed special emphasis on the periodical literature including new estimates of the number of journals and other periodicals, characteristics of journals, journal prices, number of subscribers, and type of publishers. Special analyses are also presented for the value of the journals and for the economics of page changes. Other sections in the report cover books, technical reports, library and secondary services, the amount of resources attributable to federal sources and the total amount of resource expenditures involved in scientific and technical communication. Most principal estimates are included in a set of time series analyses including observations from 1960 to 1975. (Author/HM)
