Syllabi for the Teaching of Management Ethics.
Dill, David D.; And Others
Stemming from the Society for Values in Higher Education's project designed to examine the problems of management ethics, the following five syllabi focus on improving the teaching of ethics to persons preparing for careers in corporate and public management. Designed for use in public and private institutions, the syllabi are modeled to be adaptable to various teaching contexts and needs. Ethics and Business: A Course Model Taught as Philosophy 271 (Kenneth Goodpaster, Notre Dame) is designed for undergraduates and introduces some basic categories of philosophical ethics and their application. Ethical Issues in Business: A Course Model Taught on Philosophy 253 (Thomas Donaldson, Loyola University, Chicago) is an undergraduate course focusing on central concepts in ethics as they apply to managerial decisions. An Exploration in the Values of Management and Organizations: A Suggested Course Outline (David D. Dill, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) is designed for graduate programs in business, administration, social work, and similar graduate professional programs for managers. Business Ethics--A Sugqested Model for a Six-Week Course (William M. May, University of Southern California, Los Angeles) is a short course designed for practicing managers. The 1979 Summer Institute on Ethical Issues in the Management of Public and Private Institutions is a second summer institute design for a mix of academics and practicing managers. Specific reading lists are included. (LC)
