Family Obligation and the Transition to Young Adulthood.
Fuligni, Andrew J.; Pedersen, Sara
Developmental Psychology, v38 n5 p856-68 Sep 2002
Examined changes in sense of family obligation (FO) among an ethnically diverse group of 745 Americans in transition from secondary school into young adulthood. Found that FO increased for all young adults, with slight variations according to ethnic and financial backgrounds. Implications of FO for employment and educational persistence depended on age and high school academic performance. A sense of FO related to more positive emotional well-being. (Author/KB)
