A study to assess gross and fine motor control within pairs of twins and between twins and singletons found that singletons out-performed twins in motor development. There were no apparent performance differences by sex or between the first- and second-born twins. Research methodology and analysis of data are presented. (DF)

The Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL) test was used to evaluate 610 children, aged 2-1/2 to 5-1/2. Performance varied by race, sex and age,leading to the conclusion that our understanding of basic characteristics of movement performance in preschool children is far from complete. (Author/MT)

The underlying structure of the motor abilities represented by the "Short Form of the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency," along with the consistency of the emerging factors by sex and two chronological age (CA) levels, were studied with 765 nondisabled children 4.6 to 14.6 years old. This study investigated whether a pattern for the development of motor ability could be discerned, using the same range of motor performance tests with boys and girls at 10 different age levels.
