Identifying and Leading Effective Professional Learning Communities
Stoll, Louise; McMahon, Agnes; Thomas, Sally
Journal of School Leadership, v16 n5 p611-623 Sep 2006
This article reports key findings from a 2-1/2-year mixed methodological study of professional learning communities, the first of its kind in England. In particular, the concept of effectiveness is explored as it relates to professional learning communities. We describe three ways in which effectiveness can be construed, arguing that any comprehensive assessment of professional learning community effectiveness by school leaders needs to identify and attend to all three aspects.
