This book is intended to show children how to put Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences (MI) into practice in their own lives. An introductory chapter discusses the nature of intelligence and introduces Gardner's theory and eight types of intelligences. Then a chapter is given to each of the eight intelligences: (1) "Word Smart"; (2) "Music Smart"; (3) "Logic Smart"; (4) "Picture Smart"; (5) "Body Smart"; (6) "People Smart"; (7) "Self Smart"; and (8) "Nature Smart." Each chapter begins with a quiz to help the child evaluate his own abilities. Then a section explains the particular type of intelligence being addressed and provides examples. If this particular form of intelligence is a weakness, suggestions for ways to develop this area are made, utilizing the individual's areas of strength. Each chapter also has career suggestions for individuals with a particular area of strength and an annotated list of resources including books and magazines, organizations, and Web sites. (DB)
