The purpose of this quasi-experimental study is to determine the impact a freshman mentoring program will have on student achievement, student discipline and student attendance within a large suburban high school. There does not seem to be much previous research on this topic in particular, therefore much of the research focused on the transition from middle school to high school and mentoring programs in general. This study was conducted in a large Chicago suburban high school in which the community and district are made up of predominantly white families. It focused on high school freshmen level students who have regular contact with high school senior level students in their advisory class each day. It examines the effectiveness of the senior mentors on the freshmen students success academically, behaviorally and in attendance. This study was conducted over a period of one school year and consisted of 201 high school freshmen and fourteen high school senior mentors in the experimental group. In order to determine student success of the experimental group, the scores from the IOWA test of reading, math grades, English grades, number of discipline referrals, and attendance were compared to the those same things for the control group, which was the previous years freshman students.
