The Integration of It Governance, Information Security Leadership and Strategic Alignment in Healthcare: A Correlational Study
Taft, Tiffany H.
ProQuest LLC, D.I.T. Dissertation, Capella University
This dissertation is a study of the relationship between Information Technology Governance (ITG), information security leadership, and strategic alignment within a healthcare organization. Strong organizational leadership and adherence to the process are vital to the formulation and management of performance and implementation of key directives. This study provides a holistic view through a risk-based approach to prioritizing and addressing a full range of information security concerns faced by healthcare organizations today. Organizations rely on IT to achieve their business goals and objectives through operational efficiency, including management of enterprise risks and regulatory compliance. In this study, the researcher examined, analyzed, and determined the relationship between IT governance and leadership to strategic alignment of the organization based on 112 respondents using quantitative research methods. Results of the Pearson product-moment correlations between the seven measures of IT governance with the MLQ transformational and transactional leadership scores supports the primary hypothesis that a relationship does exist between ITG, information security leadership, and strategic alignment delivered in a healthcare organization. Thus, future research must explore not only what makes the information security leader effective, but what behaviors influence their readiness and effectiveness in the healthcare environment.
