Manual of Hausa Idioms.
Bagari, Dauda M.; And Others
The text consists of 22 lessons and is intended as a supplementary text for intermediate and advanced Hausa students. All but three of the lessons contain a reading selection, a set of discussion questions, a list of idioms from the reading along with other expressions that are semantically or syntactically related, exercises to test for mastery of the idioms, a few points of grammar designed to aid comprehension of the reading selection and to review or elaborate on aspects of Hausa structure that the student may not be familiar with, and a few drills to reinforce the grammar. Lessons 7 (idioms involving typical characteristics of animals), 16 (childbirth and naming), and 18 (Salla: prayer and religious holidays), also contain lists of idioms, but in a different format: rather than beginning with a reading selection, these lessons describe groups of related idioms in the context of their cultural background.
