From a random selection of 4,841 school board members, 1,306 (27 percent) ranked a list of 22 roles and 25 attributes that might apply to school board presidents. Respondents also listed the following as their top three concerns: (1) efforts by the states to dictate the responsibilities of local school boards; (2) aging school facilities; and (3) curriculum development.
