Putting on Mock Trials.
American Bar Association, Chicago, IL. Public Education Div.
Mock trials are more popular than ever because the Internet has evolved as a resource for all kinds of mock trial questions. Part of the mock trials appeal lies in the fun involved in preparing for and participating in the simulated trial. This revised edition of a booklet first published in 1987 informs teachers about how to use the mock trial simulation in the classroom. The booklet contains 19 sections: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "Objectives of Mock Trials"; (3) "Mock Trials and Critical Thinking"; (4) "Types of Mock Trials"; (5) "How to Prepare for and Conduct Mock Trials in the Classroom"; (6) "Playing Fields of Mock Trials"; (7) "Introducing the Trial Process and Steps in a Trial"; (8) "Roles in Criminal Trials"; (9) "Rules of Evidence"; (10) "Helpful Hints for Mock Trial Participants"; (11) "Direct and Cross-Examination Questions"; (12) "Mock Trial Judging Form"; (13) "Selecting, Preparing, and Using Judges"; (14) "Questions for Class Discussion Following Mock Trials"; (15) "Analyzing Your Mock Trial"; (16) "Moot Court (Appeal) Activities"; (17) "Going beyond the Classroom"; (18) "Sample Mock Trials" (Elementary School Mock Trial; Trial Based on Literature; Middle School trial; Mediation and the Adversary Process; Small Claims Mock Hearings; "State v. Randall"; Historical Mock Trial; In the Matter of Toni Radcliffe); and (19) "Further Information and Materials about Mock Trials." (BT)
