Cultural Contact through Musical Poetry in Clara Janes's "Kampa"
Faszer-McMahon, Debra
Hispania, v92 n1 p25-36 Mar 2009
Clara Janes's "Kampa" is a love song dedicated to the renowned Czech poet Vladimir Holan. The work includes a musical and lyrical composition performed on tape, and its unconventional musical mode offers an alternative to divisions between western and non-western literary and musical forms. The poetry of "Kampa" presents musical methods of bridging the chasm between self and other, and the work offers this union in the midst of regions on the periphery of traditional eastern and western divides.
