The topic of perfectionism is bound to surface when discussing the social and emotional development of gifted children and adolescents. The author has observed gifted and talented fourth graders who have exhibited perfectionism in a myriad of unhealthy ways. She was able to document and categorize the manifestations of perfectionism. In this article, she presents case studies that represent the different types of unhealthy manifestations of perfectionism in these children. The case studies are categorized as: (1) The Academic Achiever ("Must Achieve 110%"); (2) The Risk Evader ("All or Nothing"); (3) The Aggravated Accuracy Assessor ("Exactness and Fixation on Redos"); (4) The Controlling Image Manager ("I Could Have Won if I Wanted to"); and (5) The Procrastinating Perfectionist ("If it Stays in My Mind, Then I Can't Fail"). Action strategies that educators can take to help each type of perfectionist transform their perfectionism more positively in their future work are discussed. (Contains 1 table.)
