Benson, Angela D.
New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, n100 p69-78 Win 2003
Assessing participant learning in online environments provides benefits and challenges. Fortunately, the available technology tools allow for a wide range of assessment techniques. Based on the purpose and scope of the assessment and the nature of the material being assessed, educators can choose from the following online assessment techniques: (1) selected response assessments; (2) constructed response assessments; (3) virtual discussions; (4) concept mapping; (5) portfolio assessment; (6) writing; (7) field experiences; (8) problem-solving simulations; (9) individual and group projects; (10) informal student feedback; (11) peer feedback; and (12) self-assessment.
