Exploring Classroom Teachers' Spelling Practices and Beliefs.
Johnston, Francine R.
Reading Research and Instruction, v40 n2 p143-56 Win 2001
Interviews teachers in grades 2 to 5 to investigate the practices and beliefs about spelling instruction in a school system which has de-emphasized formal spelling instruction. Suggests that classroom teachers persist in the use of weekly lists and testing. Notes teachers were dissatisfied with the spelling ability of their students but lacked knowledge and resources to teach spelling more effectively. (RS)
