Attitudes of College Students Toward Study Abroad: Implications for Disability Service Providers.
Matthews, Peter R.; Hameister, Brenda G.; Hosley, Nathaniel S.
Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability, v13 n2 p67-77 Sum 1998
Interviews with 64 college students with disabilities investigated attitudes toward study abroad and perceived barriers to participation. Subjects cited lack of knowledge about programs, lack of assistive devices and services, and financial issues as barriers. Students favored inclusionary programs over those just for students with disabilities, six months advance notice, and junior-year participation. Implications for service provision are discussed.
