Examines lexico-grammatical features in an introductory textbook in relation to the thematic organization of the textbook. Comparison is made with a second textbook and the contribution of the lexico-grammatical feature to establish an epistemology of geology. Suggestions are made for supporting English-as-a-Second-Language students in processing information in a new subject. (21 references) (JL)
