Assessing Irrational Beliefs and Emotional Distress: Evidence and Implications of Limited Discriminant Validity.
Zurawski, Raymond M.; Smith, Timothy W.
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v34 n2 p224-27 Apr 1987
Examined the disciminant validity of measures of irrational beliefs. The Irrational Beliefs Test and the Rational Behavior Inventory were highly correlated but were equally highly correlated with self-report measures of depression and anxiety. Thus, rather than assessing beliefs correlated with emotional distress, the measures may actually assess general dysphoria or neuroticism. (Author/KS)
