Fantasy and questionnaire measures of the achievement syndrome are used to study the achievement orientation of lower class eleven-year old black and Caucasian elementary school boys. While some evidence for an achievement syndrome appears among black students, the evidence is less clear among the Caucasian students. (Author/MV)
