A number of precautions can be taken both before and after conception. Potential effects of alcohol abuse, drug use and abuse, smoking, and toxic chemicals encountered in the workplace are discussed with respect to men's fertility and impact on the health of the future child. Ways of encouraging and supporting a partner to pursue a healthy lifestyle once she becomes pregnant are also presented.
