This handbook was designed as a resource for high school personnel to use in meeting Oregon's required one-half credit in career development. It provides information for school personnel concerned with developing a set of educational, career, and vocational guidance responsibilities and with clarifying the duties of high school counselors and teachers. A team approach to career and vocational guidance that involves a career education coordinator, counselors, teachers, parents, and other staff personnel is encouraged. The handbook is divided into three sections. Section I contains background information on the Career Development Program. Suggested career education activities to be performed by high school counselors are listed; the formation of a Career Resource Center where all career information is accumulated for student, counselor, and teacher use is explained; and suggested career information for high school libraries or resource centers is included. A Career Exploration Class outline for 90 47-minute class periods is provided. The use of individual file folders to maintain career data through the students' school years is explained. Testing and interest inventories are listed and grade levels for inventory administration are suggested. Section II contains 29 student activities and relevant worksheets for use in grades 9 through 12. Section III contains samples and lists of the resource materials that are used throughout this handbook. (NRB)
