Linea abierta -- Comunicacion en espanol. Nivel Uno (Open Line -- Communication in Spanish. Level One).
Dissemination and Assessment Center for Bilingual Education, Austin, TX.
This text is the first of a series of four units concerning language skills for Spanish speakers of limited English-speaking ability in grades 6-9. The text includes a variety of learning experiences designed to develop competence in the student's cognitive and affective skills derived from the following basic areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on the first three. The text/workbook contains 16 units. Each unit is composed of three parts, each of which concentrates on a different area of language skills. These parts of the unit are arranged in the following order: oral communication, reading, and structure. The oral communication section is aimed at enriching the student's vocabulary and making self-expression more precise and effective. The reading section provides the student with low level, high interest reading selections that deal with the Hispanic cultures and peoples in the United States. The structure section emphasizes the practical application of traditional grammar concepts. The volume is concluded with a glossary that contains an alphabetized list of all new words introduced in the units. (NCR)
