The 105 institution libraries of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) now have over 238 million volumes in their collections, employ 35,000 personnel, and spent over $625 million in 1976-77 to support their programs. Additional data presented in this report include (1) statistical tables for each member concerning its collections, interlibrary loans, expenditures, and personnel; (2) university statistics on fall 1976 enrollments, Ph.D.'s awarded, and Ph.D. fields; (3) microform statistics, showing reels of microfilm, number of microcards, microfiche, and microprint sheets; (4) an analysis of selected variables, providing high, low, and median figures for 10 categories; and (5) 15 rank order tables of university libraries with one summary table. The report also contains the instructions for completion of the questionnaire used to gather the data, footnotes to the statistics, and an index. (JD)
