This booklet was prepared to acquaint the personnel of the Bergen County public schools, the lay public, and advisory board members with the purpose and functions of advisory committees serving the vocational, technical, and adult education divisions of Bergen Community College. Following brief summaries of college history and philosophy, curriculum offerings, and the role of the Board of Trustees, the document reviews the organization and functions of advisory committees and provides detailed guidelines for committee operations in such areas as (1) qualifications, procedures for appointment, terms of membership, number of meetings, use of consultants, conduct of occupational surveys, provision of public information, and the responsibilities of the college representative; (2) bylaws for advisory committee operation; (3) evaluating and rewarding advisory committees; and (4) advisory committees and legislation. A checklist for getting the most out of advisory committees and a bibliography is included. Appendices contain various forms and correspondence relating to advisory committee and college interaction.
