Australian Education 1788-1900. Church, State and Public Education in Colonial Australia.
Austin, A. G.
The history of education in Australia from the years 1788 to 1900 is related from its inception by the early governors of the colonies. The struggle between church and state in the responsiblility of educating children is a central feature. The final acceptance of responsibility by the government in the late 1800's and the unfortunate results of poor schooling by 1900 are described. (JD)
