Arab Education in Israel.
Mar'i, Sami Khalil
Arab education in Israel and sociocultural, socioeconomic and political issues of being a minority in Israel are considered in this book. Arab education in Israel is traced from elementary to university levels, and from its historical background to its present administration. Numerous Arabic, English, and Hebrew studies in education are analyzed, including detailed comparisons of the Arab, Jewish, and West Bank Palestinian educational systems. The work reflects the interdisciplinary nature of education, covering such topics as the tradition, pragmatism, social status of Arab village life and token Arabs in Israeli government; feminization of the teaching profession; job discrimination; physical security of Israeli universities; and television, informal education, and the rise of Arab Palestinian nationalism as it influences education. Eighteen tables, notes, and index are included. (SW)
