Procedures developed during a pilot study of self concept in first grade students were applied to all first grade students in the project area. Programs developed for each of the following areas are described: (1) recognition and identification of characteristics of the self concept, (2) determination of how these characteristics are developed, (3) improvement of self concept in children of all ages, (4) evaluation criteria for measuring change in self concept, (5) measurement of effects of self concept change on academic achievement and social change, (6) in-service training for professional educators, (7) community involvement, (8) operational program formulation, and (9) dissemination of information related to the program.
