This seminar convened in 1967 by the Indian Adult Education Association studied the role of school systems in the promotion of literacy work and other adult education; examined specific measures needed to utilize the schools for adult education; and made recommendations as to organizational, administrative, financial, and other changes needed. Messages were received from the President, Vice-President, and Prime Minister of India; the acting Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the Union Education Minister; the Minister of Petroleum and Chemicals and Social Welfare; the Minister of Transport and Shipping; and the Chief Ministers of several Indian states.
