The opening general session at this conference addressed the challenges of marketing public parks with particular emphasis upon the population of retired persons with the means to travel. The workshops dealt with the responsibilities of park personnel and management for improving services to park visitors. Brief reports are given of the concurrent educational sessions which included the topics of: (1) work management; (2) resource and visitor protection; (3) maintenance of park flora; (4) special event programming; (5) budgeting and finance; (6) employee guidance and counseling; (7) water recreation and management; and (8) park design.
