This qualitative study uses action research methodology to investigate the thematic components of English language teacher training programs in the drive to develop a universal model framework. A two-part professional development in-service program in South Korea is used as a platform for the model. Similarities and differences between real and ideal models are identified, and suggestions for improving programs in South Korea based on the conceptual model and study data are offered. Findings suggest eight themes of consideration to be built into future training programs. Suggestions for immediate implementation and further investigation are provided.
