Energy and Economics. [Revised Edition.]
Walstad, William; Gleason, Joyce
This unit is designed to provide high school students with an introduction to topics of energy and economics. A basic premise of the unit is that energy issues and economics are interrelated. It is believed that the application of basic economic concepts to energy issues can provide students with the tools to improve their analysis of problems and will help them understand the consequences of alternative solutions to energy problems for consumers, business, or the public. The unit is comprised of 20 activities and is intended for use by teachers of social studies, science, economics, or consumer education. Among the activities included are the following: "Energy--A Scarce Resource"; "Measurement of Energy Consumption"; "Profits and Incentives in Energy Markets"; "OPEC: A Cartel Case Study"; and "Energy and the Environment." Each activity contains a program goal, objectives, key vocabulary, a list of materials, rationale, and implementation and evaluation guidelines. A supplementary materials guide is included. (DB)
