The Views of Student-Teachers Attending a Turkish University on Discrimination Related to the Education of Women
Murat, Mehmet
Educational Research and Reviews, v8 n2 p51-57 Jan 2013
The current study aims to highlight how Turkish students perceive important issues such as discrimination against women, violence that surfaced as a result of discrimination, alienation, inequality between men and women and isolation of women from work life. A total of 50 students participated in the study. Individual interviews were conducted. The interview transcriptions were inductively analyzed, and categories and codes were discovered. The results indicate that the students believe that it is not proper to remove traditional roles of men and women from course materials due to cultural reasons. They maintained that equal opportunities must be provided for women to actively attend sports and physical education for the assurance of equality. (Contains 1 table and 4 figures.)
