The purpose of this qualitative case study was to document the leadership journey of one female superintendent who transformed the interface of a school district to create organizational change. The case study focused specifically on the leadership of Dr. Phyllis Wilson and the alignment of her leadership to the Educational Leadership Constituent Council and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium standards. According to the literature, women face many challenges on the road to educational leadership, this study provides a deeper insight in leadership practices that women may use to attain, maintain and thrive in the top educational executive position, the superintendency. This study used a single case study design to provide a glimpse of how a female superintendent changed the interface of a school district by empowering all stakeholders to lead. Key themes to support the findings emerged from the interview of the superintendent, central office staff interviews, administrative interviews, board member interviews, parent interviews, focus group interviews, field notes, observations and document and journal analysis. The research questions were answered based on emerging themes that defined the leadership style and practices of the superintendent as a key factor that empowered all stakeholders to lead. The research findings discussed helped to create a meaningful understanding of the leadership of Dr. Phyllis Wilson, superintendent of Joliet School District 86. Dr. Wilson's background knowledge in all entities of district leadership provided the strong foundation needed to change the interface of a school district and empowered stakeholders in a school district to lead. Individual and focus group interviews shared the heart of the story providing insights that generated an understanding of her leadership.
