The program described in this handbook is a pre-admission counseling program dealing with the specific needs of the mature woman student. It encourages her to explore her educational and career options, making it possible for her to enroll in a career-oriented study program if she so chooses. The book operates on the assumption that it is no longer enough to work at a menial position outside the home, as it was no longer enough to stay home to wash diapers and wax floors. It assumes that women want meaningful work and meaningful lives, but often do not have the confidence, skills, training or experience to meet the demands of their aspiration. The goal of this handbook is to share the program experience and methodology with counselors, teachers, and administrators in order to assist them in implementing pre-admission counseling programs for mature women.
