A checklist of energy consumption reduction measures for universities is provided with the intent of achieving rapid and significant energy savings at minimal cost. Measures described should be within the scope of accomplishment by regular university operating and maintenance personnel. The measures involve non-technical actions such as adjusting temperatures and reducing lighting levels. Such action should result in reduction of at least 10%. Quick action measures are presented in 11 categories: (1) lighting; (2) heating and cooling; (3) ventilation and infiltration; (4) modification of central power plant operations; (5) electric power; (6) water heating; (7) elevators; (8) maintenance procedures; (9) water systems; (10) transportation; and (11) operating practices of kitchen and cafeteria areas.
