The "Chugakuryoko" and Hogan's Heroes: The Experience Gap between U.S. and Japanese Students' Knowledge of World War II
Olwell, Russ
Kappa Delta Pi Record, v47 n3 p129-132 Spr 2011
Based on his own teaching experiences and findings, the author discusses the experience gap between U.S. and Japanese students' knowledge of World War II. He compares and contrasts how the subject of World War II is taught in the United States versus Japan. While it takes teacher effort to enrich the history experiences of U.S. students, the author contends that it would be a worthwhile enterprise to address this historical gap in their knowledge about World War II.
