This collection of 12 short, bilingual papers on nutrition and preschool children is part of a series of papers on various aspects of day care published by the Canadian Department of Health and Welfare. Each paper is presented in both English and French. Topics dealt with include an overview of children's nutritional needs; development of children's potential skills and concepts through preparing and working with food; learning experiences in nutrition-related activities like watching a plant grow; the dangerous effects of mega-doses of vitamins; recipes for balanced meals; use of books as catalysts for nutrition activities; the nutritional status of Canadian children; nutrition in a kindergarten for the trainable mentally retarded; nutrition education for preschool children; and the interrelatedness of the school nutrition program, intellectual development and curriculum activities of young children in a child care center.
