Patterns of Appraisal and Coping across Different Stressor Conditions among Former Prisoners of War with and without Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
Fairbank, John A.; And Others
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v59 n2 p274-81 Apr 1991
Compared repatriated World War II prisoners of war with and without posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and noncombat veterans on psychological functioning, appraisal, and coping. Subjects with PTSD reported poorer psychological functioning; significantly less control over war memories; and more frequent use of self-isolation, wishful thinking, self-blame, and social support to cope with memories than did non-PTSD subjects.
