This review describes the history, clinical features, methods of diagnosis, and treatment of (1) large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS), a condition involving congenital hearing loss that is purely sensorineural or mixed in nature, and (2) progressive stepwise hearing losses following minor head trauma. Emphasis is on prevention of further hearing loss and educational implications for teachers. (DB)
