The Tokyo (Japan) October 2000 meeting of experts on History Teaching in Japan and the Russian Federation was organized by the International Society for Educational Information (ISEI) and the Council of Europe. This was the second meeting, following the initial 1999 St. Petersburg (Russia) meeting conducted to increase mutual understanding in the history of relations between Japan and Russia. Three objectives of the second meeting were to: (1) discuss how Russian and Japanese histories are being taught in secondary schools in these countries; (2) analyze the way in which new history textbooks are being developed in Japan and Russia; and (3) discuss a plan for future cooperation. The proceedings of the meeting consist of the following sections: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "Official Presentations"; (3) "Presentations of the Russian Experts"; (4) "Presentations of the Japanese Experts"; and (5) "Conclusions."
