Evaluating Tech Prep Education Programs: Implications for Reporting Program and Student Outcomes
Ruhland, Sheila K.
Journal of Vocational Education Research, v28 n1 p35-57 2003
Tech Prep education programs play a vital role in the education of American youth. During the past decade, with funding from the Perkins Act, Tech Prep consortia have consolidated and developed programs for students. The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 required each state to identify performance levels relevant to career and technical education. Seven essential program elements and four core indicators provide the foundation to evaluate Tech Prep education programs. This work is based upon a review and synthesis of state and local Tech Prep evaluation efforts. This paper will identify an evaluation model to guide those responsible for the planning, data collection, and analysis of Tech Prep program and student outcomes data. (Contains 2 tables and 1 note.)
