To celebrate the two-year anniversary of the founding of ProSPER.Net--the Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network--members convened on 5-9 July 2010 in Shanghai, China, at a meeting hosted by Tongji University, a founding member. ProSPER.Net is an alliance of 21 higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region under the auspices of the United Nations University-Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS). Since the network's inception, members have been working on joint projects, using their strengths and expertise in sustainable development and/or education for sustainable development (ESD) to promote and disseminate innovative pedagogies, curricula and research with a strong sustainability component. ProSPER.Net members meet periodically to review the progress of joint activities, consider new membership applications and discuss issues like future strategies and synergising with other networks. During the annual ProSPER.Net General Assembly meeting, finalists for the ProSPER.Net-Scopus Young Scientist Awards gathered to present their work in an open symposium. This article presents the winners of the ProSPER.Net-Scopus Young Scientist Awards and provides updates on three continuing projects developed by ProSPER.Net members: (1) integration of sustainability into business school curricula; (2) an e-program on sustainable development practice in public policy; and (3) training on sustainable development issues for faculty and researchers. This article also describes three new projects which the ProSPER.Net board approved: (1) a researchers' school in sustainable development; (2) a project to develop linkages towards poverty reduction; and (3) a project to develop an alternative university appraisal model.
