The Great Balancing Act. Nutrition Comes Alive. Level 4. Nutrition Educator's Guide and Work Sheets, Information Sheets, Story, Letters to Parents. Revised Edition.
Waldron, Laurie
This guide offers a nutrition education program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Activities span all grades as well as activities for the specific level. Nutrition education objectives are stated for each grade level: (1) grade four--students will explore how to balance food intake and energy output for overall health and physical fitness; (2) grade five--students will be motivated to eat nutritious foods because they understand why the human body needs certain nutrients to function; and (3) grade six--students will become motivated to conserve food and food-related resources. An explanation is given of what the students should understand about the objective for each level. Activities for Grade 4 help students to: (1) establish that energy is needed for all life processes; (2) examine the relationship between intake and expenditure of food energy; and (3) focus on how technological changes have affected personal energy expenditure. A supplement to this guide contains worksheets, letters for parents, and recipes. A Spanish translation of the letters for parents is provided. (JD)
