Promoting the Role of Occupational Therapy in School-Based Collaboration: Outcome Project
Christner, Andrea
Journal of Occupational Therapy, Schools & Early Intervention, v8 n2 p136-148 2015
This evidence-based project provided a professional development opportunity for educators to enhance the awareness of school-based occupational therapy and promote a collaborative approach when supporting student participation in daily learning tasks. Through asynchronous web-based delivery, participants viewed five narrated PowerPoint presentations at individually convenient times. Pre- and post-test comparisons showed this intervention positively influenced participant perceived awareness of school-based occupational therapy. In addition, qualitative findings revealed that educators would accept an increased presence of the occupational therapist in the classroom to support students and supplement curricular activities. Participants further acknowledged that effective collaboration requires a commitment from all contributing members.
