This document contains ten information modules designed for use in an industrial supervisory training seminar. The first module focuses on the role of the supervisor. Topics include a definition of supervision and its four basic functions: planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. The second module deals with authority, power influence, and the supervisor's responsibility. The third module concerns itself with the use of the informal organization that exists in all industries; uses and disadvantages are explored. Module 4 focuses on human relations in organizations. The fifth module deals with morale; topics include factors that influence morale, unions and morale, and improvement techniques. Module 6 deals with the motivation of people. Problems of handling grievances and taking disciplinary actions is the subject of module 7. The eighth module deals with communication, and its topics include purpose, barriers, techniques, channels, and written versus oral. The ninth module focuses on the training of employees; topics include methods and techniques, purpose of evaluation, and the art of questioning. The last module, on managing time, deals with time pressures and how to make more time available for dealing with top priority items. (JH)
