The implementation of the Nutrition Education Initiative (NEI), a project to promote the adoption of healthy eating practices by middle school students in North Florida, included the development of the "NEI Resource Guide" and pilot study outcomes. Eight schools in North Florida participated in the pilot project. Food recall data from 331 and 768 (pretest and posttest) middle school students showed mostly increases in average servings at school for dairy, meat, vegetables, fruit, and grains and decreases in fat and sugar. Future research and lessons learned are discussed. (Contains 1 figure and 1 table.)
